Owen Findlay

Architectural Technologist

Personal Statement

I consider myself very lucky to have spent my formative years in the industry at such a diverse and supportive practice. I have been exposed to some incredible schemes including a range of different design and construction methods across the UK. This has been an excellent opportunity to learn as much as possible and connect with many different disciplines, developing myself as a professional. My hopes for the future is to further expand this practice, deepen my knowledge and increase my responsibility and effectiveness within a company.

Current Portfolio

ECR – Acton

My first project i was able to work on from late stage 3 Design all the way through to near completion. We picked up this project from another architect and carried out a review of the design prior to progressing with a building regulations application and our Stage 4 technical pack. This review led to further design development between us and the previous architect. This and the following stage 4 and stage 5 works allowed me to work closely with the project leads to deliver this 23 unit new build apartment scheme in Central London.

Fieldon Bridge

This local project, involved the remediation of a former brownfield site to accommodate a new 20 unit retail and leisure park. My responsibilities included the production of technical drawings alongside the project lead. Also incorporating the needs from the various different tenants whilst accommodating the needs of the client.

Modular Data Centre

For this project i worked closely with our client to deliver a proposal to present to the board of directors. We briefly consulted with a local mechanical engineering company to better understand the systems required to operate the facility allowing us to deliver a feasible concept.

Data Centre

From early concept to pre planning for this particular client, the lead architect and i worked together to come up with a solution to model this secondary facade. It presented many challenges i had to overcome, the irregular shape took some creative modelling, and the size and scale of the building made it very difficult to present on a drawing as the majority of the detail would get lost.

Teesside Golf Club

A local project for me, we designed a contemporary extension to an existing golf club. The brief was to produce some initial proposals for the client before we prepare a planning submission.
